In its roadmap for the next decade (Nov 2021), the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights highlights that “lobbying and corporate political engagement to weaken human rights and environmental protection laws and policies” is one of the business practices that need to be challenged.
In line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, our newest project, Social LobbyMap, will assess corporate lobbying on human rights and labour standards to increase transparency and analysis of political engagement on human rights legislation. By doing so, we aim to encourage lobbying that supports human rights; enable investors, civil society, and other stakeholders to hold businesses accountable where it is trying to weaken human rights legislation; and highlight examples of positive corporate lobbying.
Our draft methodology is now available: Social LobbyMap Draft Methodology for Consultation
As well as the series of consultation events we are holding this week, we are also inviting stakeholders to comment on the draft methodology using this form: https://forms.gle/pr6fNs6D9XUYuU8f6
